The CAPT Velden: Exciting Tournament Week with Austrian Winners

25.07.2012 - Casinos Austria

Christian Stallinger wins the main event and € 108,070. The showdown goes to Christian Sperrer with € 61,030.

Summer, sun and poker fun was the theme from 14 to 22 July 2012 at Casino Velden on Lake Wörthersee. This year the Casinos Austria Poker Tour (CAPT) in Velden provided a first-rate programme, drawing a large number of prominent poker players to Lake Wörthersee. The organisers were delighted at over 1400 participants in the tournament and a total prize sum during the CAPT of over € 1.2 million. The participants came to Velden from all over Europe, several of them direct from the WSOP in Las Vegas. For instance, the 770 pro Julian Herold, PokerStars pro Michael Keiner, the win2day aces Sigi Stockinger and Johan Brolenius, the Club7 pros Niki Kovacs and Erich Kollmann could be seen playing for the best hand. Also on hand: Jan Peter Jachtmann, Jules Ayoub, Antonio Turrisi, Matthias Kurtz, Heinz Kamutzki, Stefan Huber, Siyu Sha, Thomas Kremser, Thomas Hofmann, Philipp Junghuber, Alex Hering, Goswin Siemsen and many more.

The "Showdown on Lake Wörthersee", which took place from Sunday, the 15th, until Tuesday, the 17th, was also especially attractive and exciting. With 571 participants, the Texas Hold'em No Limit Deep Stack Tournament with the € 500 buy-in was the biggest ever in the scope of the tournament put on by the CAPT. In this tournament Christian Sperrer of Austria prevailed over Marco Liesy of Germany. Due to the considerable number of participants and prize pool of € 271,225, the winner's premium was also remarkable: Christian Sperrer won € 61,030. Marco Liesy received € 37,970. Third place also went to an Austrian: Sloby Stanculovic was delighted about his € 24,410 prize.

With a prize pool of € 450,300 and 237 entries, the main event was the crowning close of the week of poker-playing. A Texas Hold'em No Limit tournament with a € 2000 buy-in was played. There was a tough battle over the championship title, in which Christian Stallinger ultimately prevailed with a deal. He won € 108,070. Andre Mayr of Switzerland came in second, winning over € 66,690. Third place went to Josef Friedl of Germany - he went away with € 45,030.

Stefan Gollubits, poker manager of Casinos Austria summed up the events: "The fifth stop of the Casinos Austria Poker Tour in Velden was a thoroughly successful tournament week. With many different tournaments ranging from Omaha Pot Limit to Knockout Bounty and the main event, we provided poker fans with a wide-ranging mix of thrilling games for every budget. No other CAPT has ever resulted in such a high level of prize money or drawn so many prominent players".

The next stop of the Casinos Austria Poker Tour and simultaneously the highlight of the year is the European Poker Championship, which will be held from 25 October until 3 November 2012 at Casino Baden. Poker fans will soon find information and details concerning registration and qualification under www.poker.casinos.at and www.win2day.at.
