When the Black Cat Becomes a Lucky Charm
16.04.2012 - Casinos Austria
Friday, the 13th - a day that stirs the emotions. Luck beckons at Casinos Austria and the Austrian Lotteries in April this year as well.
A black cat on the left doesn't interest you? You don't care about a broken mirror? Those unconcerned about that sort of thing, even on Friday, the 13th, are free of all superstition. Casinos Austria has taken it a step further and even declared the purported day of bad luck a lucky day- this Friday for the second time since 13 January. And luck beckons at more than just Casinos Austria: on 13 April in the EuroMillion drawing and on win2day everyone has the chance to challenge Lady Luck and reap lucrative profits.
An extra bit of luck for the non-superstitious
Lady Luck awaits anyone who comes to an Austrian casino on Friday, 13 April 2012, and not only playing Roulette, Poker, Black Jack and Co. This is because on 13 April you can win € 1300 worth of chips in the scope of the "Friday the 13th" promotion. With the Lucky Day package for € 27, every casino guest receives welcome chips worth € 30, a ticket to enter the Lucky Day drawing and a special number 13 chip. You can place this lucky chip on a whole number playing Roulette and, with the right hunch, win a bottle of champagne and pop the cork afterward.
The EuroMillion prize could be quite lucrative on Friday, 13 April: there is € 53 million in the pot, and it's the 13th EuroMillion drawing on a Friday, the 13th.
About a year ago we saw just how fiercely luck could strike in the EuroMillion on a Friday, the 13th; on 13 May 2011 a man from Spain won the chock full € 121 million EuroMillion pot all on his own.
The magic number 13
The number 13 has been shrouded in magic and mystery for an eternity – about 40 percent of all skyscrapers in the US do not have a 13th floor, in many airplanes there is no 13th row, and in a large number hotels there is no room 13. An explanation for the mystery behind the number 13 might be found in the numeric symbolism based on which the prime number 13 is “in excess of 12.” The godlike number of 12 found in the 12 hours, 12 months, and 12 zodiac signs is surpassed by 13. It was often said that the devil had a hand in that, which is why the number 13 is colloquially referred to as the “devil’s dozen.”
In Italy, on the other hand, the number 13 is thought to be a lucky number: a 13 in the popular “Totocalcio" football sweepstakes is the equivalent of the big prize. The number 13 was popular in parts of France, in the Roman Empire of the ancient world, old China and in Babylon, and in Mexico it is even thought to be sacred.
Every year has at least one Friday the 13th. There can be a maximum of three of them per year. 13 April will make the supposed day of bad luck a lucky day for Casinos Austria and the Austrian Lottery Group: at the casinos, on win2day or in the lottery games.
