Corporate Social Responsibility

"Responsibility begins with me" has deliberately been selected as the motto for all CSR activities at our Group.

The public's expectations towards the Casinos Austria and Austrian Lotteries Group are complex and challenging. With our business object, we are interacting in socially and economically important but also very sensitive area, which is why we have always taken our corresponding responsibility very seriously. "Gaming with Responsibility" is not just a slogan, it is the guiding principle for all our business activities.

Not only in Austria, but in fact all around the world, we have made a mark as a global leader in the implementation and further development of methods regarding player protection, anti-money laundering, data protection and privacy, anti-corruption, and in the field of CSR in the entire industry. With our comprehensive sponsorship activities and our commitment as a partner of various organisations, we fund sports initiatives as well as social projects and are among the most important sponsors in the fields of arts and culture in Austria.

CSR reports

CSR is not just a management system. All of our employees are encouraged to bring the principle of sustainability with them into their working environment, to recognise potentials and deficits and to actively contribute to the advancement in terms of sustainability. Therefore, our CSR reports place a special focus on our employees.

The reports are created in line with the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) guidelines, which provide indicators for the three pillars of sustainability: economy, ecology/environment and social aspects. As early as in 2011, Casinos Austria and Austrian Lotteries have joined the UN Global Compact.


Corporate Volunteering – Five working days per year for social engagement

In 2013 we launched a corporate volunteering programme for all employees of our company group Austria-wide, which grants them time for social engagement. Over 700 employees have already taken advantage of this offer and worked for organisations such as Caritas, Hilfswerk, Lebenshilfe, Soma, Wiener Tafel and the Austrian Red Cross. The great response led management to expand the programme in 2018 and to grant five days per employee and year with full pay, rather than one as before.

What matters is personal initiative. In the scope of corporate volunteering, employees can take action themselves and advocate for important causes. They also have the chance to recommend projects and organisations that are important to them and which they would like to support.

Monthly CSR meetings and innovation platform

Every month we hold a CSR meeting. The minutes and documents of this meeting are published internally and are therefore open to all of our employees. In 2010, we have also established a platform called "!deenforum" (loosely translated as “forum for ideas”) in our group-wide intranet. In this forum, all employees have the opportunity to submit their ideas and improvements for all business units and divisions quickly and unbureaucratically. Moreover, we regularly advertise “!deenchallenges” (idea challenges) in which all employees are invited to submit and discuss their suggestions and concepts for certain projects or topics.

CSR partnerships

As part of its social responsibility the Casinos Austria and Austrian Lotteries Group is committed to sustainable development. In the scope of this the group addresses the ecological, social, and economic effects of its activity. An important issue is the promotion and support of Austrian tourism as well as socio-political concerns, particularly in the area of social affairs, sports and culture. CSR partnerships are formed for this purpose, their focus on being a partner and not just a sponsor.
