On the trail of Max Weiler
Monumental work "Freudige Komposition" at Casino Innsbruck
Casino Innsbruck is very specially linked to the important Austrian artist Max Weiler, who celebrated his 100th birthday in 2010. His monumental work “Freudige Komposition” lends the large gaming hall an extraordinary atmosphere.
Max Weiler created around 7,000 works in his life, approx. 2,000 of them paintings, 4,000 drawings and some of them large-format works in public space, including the three paintings at the casino. There are also over 700 drafts, sketches and 1:1 templates as well as 200 prints.
He painted the murals "Freudige Komposition", "Goldregen und schwarzer Baum" and "Introduktion" for Casino Innsbruck in 1992/93 at the age of 82. The large-format paintings are each 3 x 6 metres.
Over 4.5 million guests have visited Casino Innsbruck in the course of the years, many since admiring the artist's works, which were his last major commissioned works in Tyrol and represent the intense colour of his later works.
